Mount Aloysius Student Athletes’ Community Service Cited 02-02-2012
Cresson, Pa. - Mount Aloysius College student athletes, like all Mount Aloysius students, routinely add community service to their busy schedules. The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference cited the Mounties hard work on their web site (www.amcconf.org) recently. Even with papers and exams demanding their attention, Mount Aloysius student athletes managed to collect hundreds of food items for the Altoona Food Bank late last semester. Their club, called the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, (SAAC), decorated boxes and placed them throughout Mount Aloysius campus, collecting food for the local food bank. The decorated boxes were also put in dorms so students could donate non-perishable packaged items left from the semester. Typically, some food goes to waste when students go home for the holidays. On the Mount Aloysius campus there was a great turnout of donations and many needy families in Altoona benefitted from the students’ work.
