Mount Aloysius Celebrates Summer With An Open House 07/18/2012

Cresson, Pa. – Students searching for their college of choice have an open invitation to walk the red carpet at Mount Aloysius College on Friday, July 27th starting at 10:00 a.m. Students and their families can get a comprehensive overview – literally a How to Shop for College 101 – at Mount Aloysius and enjoy the beautiful Cresson campus. A light breakfast will start the day and a buffet-style lunch to help refuel guests in the early afternoon.

Mount Aloysius President Tom Foley extended an invitation to students and their families wanting more information about college. “This Summer Open House is a really great opportunity to rub shoulders with other students and their parents looking at college,” said President Foley. “Mount Aloysius students will serve as tour guides and can answer questions about their experiences here at MAC. Faculty, staff and coaches will also be on board to answer questions and show guests around their respective areas,” he said. “If you even think college may be in your future, this is a not-to-be-missed event. Bring an appetite,” he added.

Mr. Frank Crouse, vice president enrollment management noted that many students at Mount Aloysius are first generation students hailing from proud families of modest means. “Solid stewardship allows us to keep tuition affordable,“ he said. “Mount Aloysius is one of the most affordable private colleges in the northeast. Fully 94 percent of our students receive some form of financial aid.”

The 193-acre campus is growing and offers a mix of vintage architecture and cutting edge technology. The main building is a picturesque structure dating to 1897. It houses admissions, financial aid, security, health, and academic offices, along with the Office of the President, classrooms, the multi-million dollar nursing simulation and robotics center, and the Wolf-Kuhn Art Gallery. Cosgrave Center serves as the student union and contains the dining hall, snack bar, bookstore, child-care center (part of the elementary education/early childhood program at the College), lounges, recreational rooms, student affairs offices, and meeting rooms. The College’s Health and Physical Fitness Center is adjacent to Cosgrave. Its main athletic arena has a seating capacity of approximately 2,000 and serves as the home to all Mounties fans. The facility provides space for three basketball courts, three volleyball courts, a tennis court, a weight and exercise room equipped with a sauna, two locker rooms, office areas, changing rooms for sports officials, public restrooms, a lobby and a vestibule. This spring, ground was broken for a $25 million Athletic Convocation and Wellness Center on the western edge of the expansive campus. This facility will offer the region a new entertainment, special events and sports venue. It is scheduled to open in time for the 2014 basketball season.
