Facing a strong Juniata squad, Mount Aloysius dropped a 2-0 decision in their home opener on Wednesday afternoon. Despite an improved game in all aspects, Mount Aloysius couldn't find the win. The Mounties came out firing and had the first chance at goal when freshmen Nathan Bain struck a shot off the crossbar following a scrum in front of the Juniata goal. A few minutes later, Juniata's Dane Azeles made it 1-0 Juniata and the away side held that advantage until the end of the half. In similar fashion to earlier games, the Mounties controlled much of play in the beginning stages of the second half but couldn't come away with a goal of their own. With five minutes to play, the Eagles extended their advantage to 2-0 and took home the victory. Sophomore Austin Old had a solid game in the middle of the pitch for the Mounties, and freshman midfielder Oshane Williams provided a much-needed spark off the bench. Williams blasted a 25 yard shot that went just over the bar midway through the first half of play. "We showed that we can compete with a more technically gifted team. I think we were surpised that we found success in limiting their chances in the middle portion of the contest," Head Coach Tyler Sheikh said. "In the end, we gave up another goal late in search of an equalizer. I think we showed our fans that we have every intention of competing for a playoff spot in the AMCC this season." |
