Mount Aloysius College Slates Homecoming Weekend Events 09/21/2012
 

CRESSON, Pa. – Mount Aloysius College invites students, alumni, staff, faculty and friends to Homecoming, 2012. The series of events starts Friday night, September 28th with a barbeque in Cosgrave Center at 5:00 p.m. After dinner things get busy as Juggler Iva Pecel starts throwing caution to the winds and anything else he can get his hands on. He starts entertaining at 7:00 p.m.  At 7:30 p.m. the curtain goes up on “Almost, Maine” - a romantic and antic comedy written by John Cariani. “Almost, Maine” will be performed in historic Alumni Hall, just off of Admiral Peary Highway. Admission is free for all area students and $5 for adults.

Mount Aloysius President Tom Foley noted that alumni and friends returning to the college are surprised to see the growth evident throughout the 193-acre campus. “Alumni returning to campus are amazed to the see the vibrancy of the school evident in new buildings, the athletic field enhancements like the Mountie Stables and the technology available to our students throughout campus and in our Nursing Division," said President Foley. "No doubt the construction on the Athletic Convocation and Wellness Center on the western edge of campus will get lots of attention too. This year we have activities that the whole family can enjoy,” he said. “My wife, Michele, and I are looking forward to it.”

On Saturday, September 29th the fun starts early with a 9:00 a.m. trip to Ebensburg for “Potato Fest, 2012.” In keeping with the event, there will be a Potato Themed Luncheon at Mount Aloysius’ Cosgrave Dining Hall from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  In tandem with these events, throughout campus there will be carnival foods, a caricature artist and balloon man for children of all ages.

For sports enthusiasts, Saturday offers a full-day. A Mountie Women’s Tennis match is scheduled for noon at the Ebensburg Tennis Center. They take on Bethany College.  On campus, the Women’s Volleyball Team will go against D’Youville College at 1:00 p.m. in the Health and Physical Fitness Center. A Mountie Cross Country Invitational takes off from the Ebensburg Country Club at 1:00 p.m. The Mountie Soccer squads will take on Pitt-Bradford with the women starting play at 1:00 p.m. and the men at 3:00 p.m. Both games will be played on the Mounties’ Kimbel Soccer Field.

Saturday night at Cosgrave Dining Hall, something special will be added to the great fare. Bergamot, an innovative new-age musical duet will play in the Cosgrave Dining Hall. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and is schedule to conclude at 7:30 p.m. “Almost, Maine’s” final night should be great. The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., again in Alumni Hall. Fireworks will light up the Southern Allegheny skies starting at 9:00 p.m., just in time for the Homecoming Dance in Cosgrave Dining Hall.

Homecoming events continue Sunday, September 30th . Register early for the Zombie Scholarship Run atwww.mtaloy.edu/zombie. Cost is $10. At 2:00 p.m., Mountie Olympics promises to have  something fun or everyone. Activities will take place throughout campus. There is a Campus Liturgy scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Our Lady of Mercy Chapel.  At 9:00 p.m., comedian Cristela Alonzo will perform live in Alumni Hall.
