Men's Soccer on Losing End of Exciting Conference Opener 09/22/2012

The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team showed strong fight, but fell 3-2 to visiting Hilbert College in their conference opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Mounties fell victim to an early goal as Hilbert's Jonathan Davidson got behind the defense and knocked in a header just 3 minutes into the contest. The goal would be the only scoring of the first half as Hilbert outshot Mount Aloysius 10-5 in the opening 45 minutes.

Mount Aloysius took control of play to start the second half, and a beautiful combo play between the freshmen trio of Xavier Cardona, Patrick Chea and Nathan Bain tied things up at 1-1. Cardona hit a Chea down the left flank. Chea then crossed to Bain, who dove and one-timed a shot that found the foot of Chea for a tap-in goal.

Hilbert's Mario Williams responded with two goals of his own in a seven minute span to give the visitors a 3-1 lead. Daniel Oliveira then made it a 3-2 game as he whipped in a direct kick from 25 yards out. The Mount had a number of chances near goal in the closing moments, but couldn't find the equalizer.
