Cresson, Pa. - Led by resident students from the Mount Aloysius College Christian Living House in Cresson, area residents are being alerted to a food drive aimed at replenishing the Cresson Food Pantry located at 115 Ashcroft Avenue, Cresson. The Mounties will be collecting the donated groceries on Thursday, March 21st from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A flyer alerting residents to the drive is going out today. The circulated flyer asks residents to “Help Us Make a Difference for Families in Need.” The Mount Aloysius students remind locals that last year 4.5 million Americans benefited from local food pantries. Grass roots efforts just like theirs form local safety nets, guarding children and families from hunger as they navigate hard times. The circulated flyer asks residents to give what they can and estimates that a grocery bag of food can provide as many as 11 meals. The Cresson Food Pantry is asking for nutritious canned and dry goods and offers suggestions that include: canned vegetables, dried beans, fruit canned in its own juice, applesauce, soups, beef stew, canned tuna and canned chicken. Residents unable to be home next Thursday are asked to simply leave the groceries by their door. Mount Aloysius volunteers will be wearing appropriate identification and traveling in a Mount Aloysius College van. For additional information contact the College at (814) 886-6407. |
