There is no doubt that as we enter the 21st Century, students on America's college campuses have the world at their fingertips in a way never before known. Mount Aloysius College, in keeping up with technological advances, offers a phone connection with voicemail and a connection to the campus network in each dorm room.
Telephone and Voicemail
Each semester the Student Affairs office submits a list of names, rooms, and extensions to the IT Helpdesk for all voicemail to be cleared and prepared for the next semester. Throughout the semester if there are any room changes, notification must be given to the Help Desk so that voicemail can be cleared and prepared for that student. If you are experiencing difficulty or have any questions regarding voicemail or telephone services, please contact the Helpdesk at (814)886-6502, helpdesk@mtaloy.edu or drop by Main 327 during regular business hours.
Minimum Computer Requirements
• An IBM compatible PC is highly recommended.
• Pentium III, AMD K7 or better.
• 128 MB RAM or more.
• 500 MB or more free space on hard drive.
• Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Windows ME (Millenium Edition) is NOT supported. Other operating systems are supported on a case by case basis.
• Current anti-virus and anti-spyware applications. If we determine that your computer is causing a disruption in service, you may be disconnected from our network at the discretion of IT Services.
Wired Network Access
Each dorm room has data ports to connect your personal computer to the campus network and the Internet. An Intel or compatible 10/100 Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) and a CAT 5 patch cable are required. If you currently do not have an Ethernet Network Interface Card installed in your computer, you can purchase a NIC from the college's bookstore. After the purchase of the card, your next step is to contact the Help Desk to schedule an appointment for installation. The student will be required to sign a service waiver before the installation. Once we receive your computer, we will install the NIC and configure your web browser for network access. Anti-virus and anti-spyware software may be installed upon request. After your computer has been tested, we will call and inform you that the installation is complete and your computer is ready for pickup. There is no installation charge. Please contact the bookstore for Ethernet Network Interface Card pricing information.
Wireless Network Access
The entire campus is wireless ready, with access to the Internet and campus portal services. If your wireless device supports 802.11 b/g, you should be able to connect to the campus wireless network. Please note that the wireless network is currently unencrypted.
IF YOUR COMPUTER IS RETURNED TO US IN A NON-FUNCTIONAL CONDITION AFTER CONFIGURATION BY THE IT HELPDESK AND IT IS DETERMINED THAT THE HARDWARE HAS BEEN ALTERED OR THE CONFIGURATION HAS BEEN CHANGED, A $20.00 FEE WILL BE CHARGED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.
