Frequently Asked QuestionsFrequently Asked Questions
When do I move in?
All students will move in on Sunday. Students typically move in between 12:00 p.m and 3:00 p.m. We encourage you to arrive early so that you will not be rushed. Once the program starts, you will be very busy and won't have much time to get settled. Between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. we ask you to get ready to begin the program by preparing yourself and saying good-bye to your parents. You will need to be in Cosgrave promptly at 4:00p.m.
Where will I be living?
If you are going to be a resident in the fall, our intentions are to have you move into your permanent room for the year. Students who will be commuters in the fall will be housed in rooms with other commuters or share a room with resident students who are in the program.
What do I need to bring?
Well, if you are going to be a resident student in the fall, you can bring everything you would need for living in the dorm. Please follow the guidelines provided by the Office of Student Affairs and Residence Life. If you are going to be a commuter in the fall, then you will need to bring clothes, bedding, toiletries, an alarm clock, and towels. You are more than welcome to bring drinks and snacks. A fan is also allowed and encouraged, as it can be hot in Cresson.
Will I need extra money?
No - All food, books, supplies, and off-campus activities associated with the MAAPP program will be paid by the College. Essentially, there will be no need for extra money.
Am I allowed to leave campus this week?
No. We want to ensure that the group makes connections with one another. You would be able to leave campus in the event of a family emergency or medical emergency. However, if it is discovered a student left campus without permission they will be placing their admission to the College in jeopardy. The reality is that you will be very busy with work and activities this week.
Am I allowed to use my cell phone?
Cell phones have become such a staple of American culture it is hard to imagine life without them. As during the regular school year, it is expected that cell phones will not be on while you are in class. Please leave them in the dorm while you are in class this week. We also ask that you limit your use of them while participation in activities.
What happens the last day?
In the morning you will have your final presentations in your classes. After lunch, each student will have a set appointment to meet his or her academic advisor. It is important to begin making this connection as soon as possible. After meeting with your advisor, each student will have an exit interview with the staff. The MAAPP group will then be dismissed approximately at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Resident students will be able to remain on campus in their dorm rooms. Students who will be commuting will be asked check out and turn in their key. A final list of everyone who successfully completed the MAAPP will be given to the Admissions Office.
Will there be other students on-campus?
Yes, there will be other students on-campus. Resident Assistant's (RA's) will be on-campus for training that week. Additionally, fall athletes will be on-campus for practice. Both groups will be very busy just like you. You will have interactions with them, but everyone's time will be limited. Also, there will be student mentors participating with the program. They will help make your week a little less stressful by being a resource for you.
