Student Business Plan Competition

Competition Description

Sponsored by Mount Aloysius College and Saint Francis University, with funding provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development through its Keystone Innovation Grant program, the Competition is intended for students of the two schools with an interest in starting their own business.  Plans will be judged based on Innovation, Understanding of Market, Knowledge of Product, Management/Operations, and Viability.  Each of these areas will have the same weight.  Prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers ($3,000 - first, $2,000 - second, $1,000 - third) submitted and presented in the Competition.  Additionally, each participating team will receive $100 for reimbursement of expenses associated with the Business Plan they put together.

Eligibility

  1. Full or part time students enrolled in the 2008-2009 academic year at Mount Aloysius College or Saint Francis University.

  2. Plans may be submitted by an individual or by a team of students.
  3. Teams must consist of five or fewer members.
  4. Business plans must be for a new or start-up business.
Competition Timeline

January 30, 2009 - Deadline for submission of application form indicating intention to compete. 

March 12, 2009 - Deadline for submission of application, business plan and signed terms and conditions sheet.  Applicants will submit three hard copies and one electronic copy of their business plan.  Plans will be ten pages long plus executive summary and appendices.  Plans will be judged by a panel of judges and finalist selected. 

March 20, 2009 - Finalists announced. 

April 8, 2009 - Finalists make 15 minute presentation to judges.  Winners selected and announced at the lunch during the Entrepreneurship Fair.
