Dr. Michael B. Jones is assistant professor of political science at Mount Aloysius College. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His primary research interests are in the areas of gender identity and terrorism. Sometimes, as in the case of recently published articles, he combines the two interests. Dr. Jones teaches courses in terrorism, political theory, American government, and gender and politics while also directing the campus Cultural Literacy Seminar and Capstone courses.
Dr. Julie L. Smith, associate professor of history at Mount Aloysius College, earned her Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University. Her primary research interests are children and families in history, especially children outside of traditional families. This research has lead into several interesting opportunities including her work as research associate with the RAND corporation and the California Office of Legislative Research. She has also consulted for the Library of Congress. She currently coordinates the History/Political Science major and the Secondary Education Certification Program.
"What I like about the History/Political Science major is that you really get to know your professors. They are very open and will help you if you have any questions. They will also help make sure you understand the material that you are learning.I also like the program because they connect what you are learning to world events today."

The Mount Aloysius College History - Political Science degree is unique. MAC students
are introduced to both areas of study, progressing to upper division work in both rather
than narrowly focusing on only one. This wider exploration allows students to develop a
deeper understanding of current events and a fuller appreciation of the political context
of historical events. MAC’s accessible faculty provides a solid foundation for students in
lower division classes, fostering fuller development as students progress to their upper
division work.
Mount Aloysius graduates continue their success finding jobs in teaching, industry and education.
