What is Service Learning?

Service learning at Mount Aloysius College is a method of instruction in which students learn the content of the curriculum while actively participating in and reflecting on experiences that benefit both the community and the students.  A service learning position paper (Service Learning Plan) was affirmed by the faculty in October 2005 in which this definition of service learning is articulated as well as statements regarding

  • The relevance of service learning to Mount Aloysius College (MAC)
  • Different models of service learning
  • The approach that should be taken at MAC
  • A proposed timeline for implementation

Mount Aloysius College continues to develop its service learning program through a Service Learning Committee ; monies available for service learning projects; an annual Service Learning Expo.

Please direct all inquiries regarding service learning to Service Learning Committee Chair, Kim Asonevich, at kasonevich@mtaloy.edu or (814) 886-6530.
