Thelma Dibble, ’89
Raised in Portage, PA, Thelma began her nursing education at Mount Aloysius Junior College in 1987. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1989 and received several awards during her education including the Intensive Care Nurse Award.
In 2005, Thelma obtained a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. She once again graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded the distinction of University Scholar from the University of Pittsburgh faculty.
Thelma contributes her love of nursing and caring for patients to her time spent in home health. “I became a nurse to care for people. In a hospital you are pulled in every direction. It sometimes felt that I spent more time with equipment and paperwork than I spent with the patient. In home health you spend quality time with your patients.”
Currently, Thelma is president and CEO of Community Nursing and Home Health, Inc. Her responsibilities include budget preparation, policy and procedure formation, contract negotiation, human resource management, staff development and education, performance improvement and many other administrative duties. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Thelma has performed many hours of community service. She served as a Brownie Troop Leader and volunteered many hours of service for the Portage Area Youth Association during her children’s softball and baseball careers. She has also volunteered at many Relay for Life and church events. “I believe that each and every one of us has a moral responsibility to help our communities and fellow humans.” She has demonstrated this philosophy in her business, as well. Community Nursing and Home Health, Inc. has provided donations to many local health fairs, patients and the Salvation Army. The agency also provided a scholarship for a local high school student to attend college for a health related education.
Though Thelma loves her career and her home health agency, her greatest joy comes from her husband, Ron, her two children, Jennifer and Ronald, and her grandson, Connor. “Without the love and support of my family, I would never have been able to accomplish my goals. They have always been there for me and given me the confidence I needed to accomplish, what at times, seemed insurmountable tasks.” In her spare time, Thelma enjoys exploring interesting and historical locations with her family, sewing, crafts and, most of all, babysitting her one year old grandson.
Thelma contributes her success in her personal and professional life to following a few basic philosophies: honest and integrity is always the best policy; treat others as you would want to be treated; nothing that is worth having is easy to obtain; and the life you lead now will someday be judged by the only One that matters – God.

I want to be the sun whose rays
Gently spill across your face and
Chase the darkness away
I want to be the wings that lift you
Into the clouds and
Carry you wherever you desire
I want to be the wind that carries the sounds
Of your laughter to the world or gently dries
I want to be the willow whose gentle flowing branches
Shelters you from the sun and rain
And keeps you warm against the cold of night
I want to be all of this for you
Never failing and never ceasing
Only if you will allow me to be
