ALLENTOWN- The Mount Aloysius College women's basketball team secured their first victory of the season with a thrilling 58-57 win over Centenary College in the consolation game of the Muhlenberg College Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
In a game where the Mount led for much of the contest but couldn't pull away, Teddi Burkett drained the second of two free throws with two seconds to play to give Mount Aloysius the win.
The Mount used a balanced scoring attack as all five starters scored between seven and 14 points. Olivia Rupp led the way with 14 points and eight boards while Lindsy Sammarco chipped in with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists. Becky Bard added three steals.
Centenary received a game-high 18 points from Melissa Kukoda.
Sammarco was named to the all-tournament team after pouring in 32 points in two games.
The Mount will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Waynesburg University for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
