BUFFALO- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team couldn't recover from a large halftime deficit and fell 81-61 to Medaille on Saturday afternoon in AMCC play.
The game remained close in the beginning stages of the first half as a layup from Lindsy Sammarco with 10:45 to go made it a 26-23 ballgame. Medaille responded with a 19-2 run over the next six minutes to seize control. The Mavericks went on to take a 50-28 advantage into the half.
The Mount played much better in the second half and outscored Medaille 33-31 in the period, but the Mavericks maintained a double-digit lead down the stretch.
Sammarco led the Mount with 20 points, five assists and four rebounds. Becky Bard finished with 14 points, and Olivia Rupp also recorded double figures with 10. The Mount struggled from behind the arc, shooting 7-for-30 from three-point range.
All five starters finished in double figures for Medaille, which shot 64.5 percent from the field in the decisive first half. Joelle Pollack poured in a team-high 19 points, and Brittnee Perry turned in a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
The Mount returns to action for their final non-conference game of the season at home Wednesday night when they host Frostburg State at 7 p.m.
