BUFFALO- The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team fell victim to a 16-1 run to open the game by the Medaille Mavericks and lost 79-63 on the road in AMCC action on Saturday afternoon.
Medaille bombarded the visiting Mounties early as the home side took a 16-1 lead on an Alex Baron three-point shot with 16:20 left in the opening half. The Mount gradually chipped away as the half wore on, and cut the deficit to six at 37-31 on a jumper from Kyle Baughman with 2:51 remaining. The Mavericks responded with a quick 9-0 run to take a 15-point lead into the break.
The Mount wouldn't get any closer in the second half as the Mavericks held the visitors at bay down the stretch.
Jeff Stem led the Mount in the scoring column with 16 points, while Dameon Turner shot an efficient 6-for-8 for 13 points to go along with seven boards and two steals. Nolan Doyle and Baughman each dished five assists off the bench.
Jammal Coleman recorded a game-high 21 points for the home side, and Baron was next in line with 20. Josh Laureano had a solid all-around contest with seven points, ten assists and ten rebounds.
The Mount has a week off before returning to action next Saturday for a 3 p.m. home tipoff against PSU-Behrend.
