CRESSON- Despite showing tremendous fight against first-place La Roche, the Mount Aloysius women's basketball fell 74-65 in AMCC action on Wednesday evening.
La Roche jumped out to an early 8-0 lead a minute and a half into the contest, and continued to keep the Mount at a distance after a jumper from Jessica Pitts provided the visitors a 23-15 advantage with 8:59 to go in the opening half. The Mount responded with a 11-3 run to tie things up at 26-26 on a layup from Kaleigh Roop with 2:42 on the clock. La Roche led 29-28 at the half.
The Mounties continued to stay close and led by three on a jumper from Becky Bard with 15:20 remaining. La Roche then used a 12-0 run to take a 48-39 advantage with 11:03 left. The Mount stayed fairly close but couldn't complete the comeback.
Lindsy Sammarco, who was honored prior to the game for hitting the 1,000 point plateau against PSU-Behrend, led the Mount with 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Olivia Rupp registered 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting, and Teddi Burkett grabbed 12 boards.
La Roche was led by a game-high 26 points from Casie Cygan. Pitts recorded 16 points and 18 rebounds.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday with a road contest at Hilbert starting at 1 p.m.
