BUFFALO- The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team held a double-digit most of the way and defeated D'Youville 84-68 on the road on Saturday afternoon in their regular season finale. With the victory, the Mount finishes the regular season 16-9, 12-6 in the AMCC.
The Mount opened with a 14-7 lead after Tanner Thomas made a layup plus the foul with 12:31 to go in the opening half. The lead stretched to 30-13 on a Demetrius Davis lay-in with seven minutes to play, and a Tanner basket with 47 seconds remaining sent the Mount into half with a 41-27 advantage.
The Mount continued to keep D'Youville at bay as a Jeff Stem bucket wtih 12:34 remaining stretched the lead to 19. The lead stayed at double digits the rest of the way.
Stem and Dameon Turner paced the Mount with 19 points apiece. Tanner had 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench, while Davis (12) and Kyle Baughman (11) also finished in double figures. Nolan Doyle dished a game-high seven assists.
The Mount held a commanding 55-28 advantage in rebounds and shot an efficient 50 percent from the floor.
The Mounties have secured the #5 seed in the AMCC tournament and will travel to #4 seed Medaille on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
