MIDDLETOWN, PA- Led by an outstanding pitching performance from Derrick Capiak, the Mount Aloysius baseball team improved its record to 7-5 with a 1-0 non-conference win against Penn State-Harrisburg on Friday afternoon.
Capiak allowed just two hits, both singles, in a complete-game shutout to improve his record to 3-1 on the year. He struck out 10 and walked only one Harrisburg hitter.
Offensively, the Mount was stifled by the strong performance of Harrisburg's Will Chaney, who allowed seven hits and one earned run in over eight innings on the hill.
The Mount finally broke the 0-0 deadlock in the top of the ninth. Connor Bowie singled to right field with one out and then stole second. Jesse Bortner was then called on to pitch hit, and he came through with a clutch RBI single to provide a 1-0 lead. Capiak responded by retiring in the side in order in the home ninth to seal the victory.
The Mount returns to action with a Tuesday trip to Dickinson. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
