Oliveira, Cardona Selected All-Conference in Men's Soccer 11/7/2012

Freshman midfielder Daniel Oliveira and freshman defender Xavier Cardona were each named to the AMCC All-Conference teams on Tuesday afternoon.

Oliveira, a First-Team selection, comes off a freshman season in which he led the Mount in goals (7), assists (6) and shots (45). He was tied for sixth in the conference in assists, eighth in shots, and tenth in points per game. He appeared in all 17 games for the Mount and was sensational on the ball in his rookie year. The Rio de Janiero native was one of two freshmen to be named to the First Team along with Rookie of the Year Mario Williams from Hilbert College. He is the first men's soccer player in school history to be named First Team All-Conference by the AMCC.

"Danny was an unquestionable First Team choice due to his prowess on the ball and would be one of the top players on any team in the conference,"  Head Coach Tyler Sheikh said. "He's a young, fiery competitor who understands he still has much to learn."

Cardona, a Third-Team choice, was the leader of the Mount's defensive backline and a team captain in his first year. He appeared in 16 games and was a force at the center back position for Mount Aloysius. The Woodbury, CT native also contributed to the Mount attack, mainly off set pieces, with three goals and three assists on 18 shots.

"I've known Xavier since he was 5 and he has come such a long way while turning himself into a dominant center back," Sheikh said. "He was the reason we were competitive each time out due to his ability to read the game, and I look forward to having him mentor our young squad moving forward."
