Community Service

While the signs of the winter season are not yet upon us, the Mount Aloysius College baseball team was doing its part to help prepare local children for the frigid cold that is right around the corner. The Mountie baseball team recently participated in The Salvation Army's "Project Bundle-Up" at the JCPenny store of the Galleria Mall in Johnstown. The service project is designed to provide a warm winter coat for children and senior citizens of the local area who are in need.

Each year The Salvation Army asks the local community for volunteers to accompany area children and senior citizens around the store as they search for a coat. Over 150 people left the store with a new winter jacket after taking part in week one of this year's event. "It is an extremely worthwhile opportunity for our players," stated Kevin Kime Head Baseball Coach. "There is not one person who does not come away with a smile on their face from this experience." Senior Dan Clark of Windber also enjoyed the experience. "Project Bundle-Up is a great way for us to get involved with the local community, and it is always a very rewarding experience."

This year marks the third year in a row that the Mount Aloysius Baseball program participated in Project Bundle-Up. The Mountie players will continue to look forward to participating in local community activities. "It is always enjoyable to give back to the local community," stated senior Matt Hershey of Altoona. "Our players and coaches always look forward to these meaningful events."
