Game Notes: Cresson, PA - In their conference home opener the Mount Aloysius Mounties (5-12, 2-0) swept the Franciscan University Barons, 10-9 and 6-3.

In game one the Mounties broke open a 2-2 deadlock in the fourth inning with six runs to take the lead at 8-2 heading into the fifth inning. The Mounties would add two more runs over the next two innings to hold a commanding 10-2 lead to start the top of the seventh. The Barons (3-10, 0-2) provided some late excitement in the top of the seventh inning by driving in 3 runs with one out before centerfielder, Rocco Aurteri, came up to bat and crushed a grand slam home run out to right center. After the four run blast, Mounties starter Ryan Blaschak (1-0) would be relieved by Joe Hribar who came in and retired the final two batters for the save.

Matt Cornetti had a phenomenal day at the plate in game one going 3-3 with a walk, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. He also had his first 2 triples on the season in the game.

In the nightcap the Mounties looked more relaxed and were able to steal a 6-3 victory away from the Barons. After a leadoff home run in the first inning by Baron second baseman Jacob Machado, Mounties started Matt Aungst settled in and allowed only two more hits over four innings of work.

Mount Aloysius used its unique style of small-ball, advancing runners through stolen bases and bunts, to ensure the victory. The Mounties picked up 8 stolen bases in game two; Bryan Nolan with 3 in the game, now 17-18 (.944) on the season which leads the conference. Joe Hribar, the savior in game one, came in in a jam in the bottom of the sixth with men on first and third with two away but got designated hitter, Stephen Darrenkamp, to fly out to center to end the inning. Mike Goddisart picked up the save for the Mounties in game two.

Mount Aloysius will remain home to play D'Youville College this Saturday for a 1pm conference double header.
