| Game Notes: | WINCHESTER,VA - The Mount Aloysius baseball team opened up their season with a 14-7 loss on the road to No. 23/27 Shenandoah University on Monday afternoon in non-conference action. The Mount's offense started strong with three runs in their first two at-bats. Aaron Kovach had an RBI single in the first, then Ian Helsel and Julius Niemand added RBI singles in the second. However, Shenandoah scored three runs of its own in the first two innings of play. Shenandoah broke the game open with 11 runs combined in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 14-3 lead. The Mount struck again in the visiting seventh as Helsel ripped an RBI double and Kovach brought in a run with a single up the middle. The visitors added two more in the 9th but couldn't complete the comeback. Kovach went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Helsel went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Cory Dick and Patrick Gully recorded two hits apiece. Derrick Capiak was handed the loss on the mound for the Mount. Christopher Nolan, Brady Wright and Brady Ring were effective in relief as they combined for two scoreless innings. Corbin Lucas had the biggest hit of the game for Shenandoah with a grand slam home run in the fifth. Phillip Morse earned the win, stricking out eight in five innings pitched. The Mount returns to action on Sunday with a trip to Stevenson University. |
