Cresson--Former Mount Aloysius standout Matt Duval has been named an assistant coach for the Benedictine College Baseball team, as announced on Friday by head coach Doc Beeman. He will begin his tenure with the Ravens in mid-August and will act as the recruiting coordinator and work with the hitters. Benedictin College is located in Atchison, Kansas, which is approximated 40 miles northwest of Kansas City, MO. "Through the selection process, many things stuck out about Matt over other candidates," Beeman said. "He has a rich college baseball experience seeing many levels of baseball as a player and as a coach. Those experiences will bring an ability to create a rapport with our squad." Duval joins the coaching staff after a seven month stint as a hitting instructor at the Carmen Fusco Pro Baseball Academy in Harrisburg. This work followed college coaching stops at Burlington County College in New Jersey and his alma mater, Mount Aloysius College. Duval's playing history includes Burlington Community College (NJCAA DIII), Longwood University (NCAA DI), Angelo State(NCAA DII), and finally Mount Aloysius College(NCAA DIII). While at Mount Aloysius, Duval was an All-AMCC performer on the field and earned Academic All-Conference honors for his work in the classroom. Duval batted .337 his senior season for the Mounties, and started all 34 games at shortstop. "We have a veteran group returning next year and it was important to find someone who can jump right in without any of us missing a beat," Beeman added. "I am confident in Matt to be able to do that." Duval, a Pennsylvania native, graduated from Mount Aloysius in Cresson, PA in 2008 with a B.A. in Business Administration and will pursue his MBA while at Benedictine. |
