CRESSON- Led by 39 points from its bench, the Mount Aloysius men's basketball team defeated Pitt-Bradford 69-65 in AMCC play on Saturday afternoon.
Thomas Tanner deposited a team-high 17 points and grabbed seven boards, and Jeff Stem dropped in 16 points to lead the bench effort. Dameon Turner recorded 12 points and eight boards.
Bradford jumped out to an early 14-4 advantage five minutes in, but the Mount scored the next nine as a Jake Wyatt layup with 11:06 to play made it 14-13. The Mount took a six-point lead on a lay-in from Stem with 1:33 to play, and the home side held a 34-30 lead at half.
In the second half, the score remained close until a quick 7-2 burst gave the Mount a 50-39 lead on a layup from John LeGrande with 11:46 remaining. Bradford gradually chipped away and eventually tied the game with 28 seconds left on a three-point play by Jesse Deloof.
Turner responded with a clutch layup 11 seconds later, and Bradford's Tyler Ferguson missed a jumper as time wound down. Stem pulled down the rebound and iced the game with two free throws.
Ferguson had 19 points for Bradford, which also got 18 from Keith Burgess.
The Mount has now clinched a playoff spot in the upcoming AMCC conference tournament with two regular season games remaining.
