Cardona, Bain Each Net 3; Men's Soccer Blasts Valley Forge, 7-0 09/15/2012

The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team blasted visiting Valley Forge Christian College 7-0 on Saturday afternoon on their home field.

Freshmen Xavier Cardona and Nathan Bain each had hat tricks as the Mounties were firing on all cylinders, especially off set pieces. Bain got the show started eight minutes on a highlight reel goal. Patrick Chea cut back on the left wing and sent in a cross to Daniel Oliveira, whose bicycle kick attempt at goal was redirected in by the head of Bain. Ten minutes later, Cardona made it 2-0 as he beautifully flicked in a throw from Zach Whittington over the outstretched hands of the Patriot goalkeeper.

Just two minutes later, the Mounties scored again. Oliveira sent in a free kick from midfield that Chea ran onto and headed into the bottom corner to make it 3-0.

Bain added another in the 25th minute to make it 4-0 at half, and Cardona knocked in his second goal off a through ball from Chea five minutes into the second half. Bain completed his hat trick three minutes later on a one-on-one opportunity, and Cardona joined him at the 65 minute mark as he rose above everyone on a corner kick to head one home.

The Mounties outshot the Patriots 25-5, and Jamie Greenwood earned the win in net as he turned away four shots in 81 minutes of action. Oliveira finished with three assists.
