Cresson, PA - The Mount Aloysius College softball team swept visiting LaRoche in an AMCC doubleheader with wins of 12-6 and 10-2 on Thursday afternoon.
In game one, the Mount was down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second. With runners on first and second and one away, Lindsy Sammarco produced an RBI single. Danielle Hart then singled in two more to make it a 3-2 game.
The Mounties stayed hot at the plate with nine runs in their next three at-bats. Kiersten Lorditch and Morgan Paynter came up with the big hits. Lorditch knocked a two-run single in the third inning, and Morgan Paynter drove in two more with a single of her own in the fourth.
Lorditch ended game one 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Sammarco scored three times and got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three hits and two walks.
Kelsey Ickes earned the win in game one as she threw six innings and struck out seven. Taylor Mansfield threw a scoreless seventh to ice the victory.
In game two, the Mount broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning. After Sammarco scored on a passed ball, Kaleigh Roop drove in two with a single to make it 4-1.
The Mounties increased a 6-2 lead with a four-run inning in the sixth to take the mercy rule victory. Marissa Ayers (double), Morgan Paynter (double), Roop (triple) and Meagan Thomas (single) all recorded an RBI in the final inning.
Kelsey McCue and Shelby Kline split time on the rubber for the Mount. Both threw three innings, and each allowed only one earned run.
The Mounties conclude their regular season Saturday against Medaille with the hopes of clinching a playoff spot in the upcoming AMCC tournament.
