Altoona, PA - A key four-run sixth inning proved to be the difference as the Mount Aloysius College softball team advanced in the AMCC tournament on Saturday morning with an 8-7 thriller over Penn State-Behrend.
The Mounties went into the bottom of the sixth down 5-4 before the outburst. Meagan Thomas got it started with an RBI sac fly that brought in Morgan Paynter. Lindsy Sammarco then notched an RBI single before two more runs would score on an error to make it 8-4.
Behrend nearly rallied in its final at-bat. They scored two runs and the bases loaded before the Mount's Kelsey Ickes recorded the strikeout to nail down the victory.
Sammarco went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Jalisa Westover and Kaleigh Roop each went 2-for-4 for the game.
