Cresson, PA – Whitney Giedroc was outstanding for the Mounties softball team Wednesday evening as they swept Pitt-Greensburg, 6-5 and 9-1 (6).

With the sweep the Mounties (19-9, 13-3) remain in 2^nd place in the AMCC with four conference games left on the schedule.

Whitney Giedroc had a career day at the plate; she came up a single short of the cycle in the opener.  Geidroc finished the day 4 for 4 with 4 walks, 4 runs scored, 3 RBI’s, 2 doubles, a triple, and an inside the park homerun.

Carrie Shevock, who has been injured for most of conference play, got the start in the circle in game one.  She only lasted 10 pitches as her oblique injury forced her out of the game early; she retired the side in the first inning. 

Jess Seasoltz came in in relief and stifled Greensburg the rest of the way.  After 3 innings of scoreless softball Greensburg opened up the fourth with 3 runs in the top half.

With the score tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the 6^th Renee Schmitt (who hit 2 HR’s on the day) recorded her first homerun of the season (an inside the parker down the left field line) which plated Whitney Shearer and gave the Mounties a 5-3 lead.  Greensburg tied it up in the top half of the 7^th but Seasoltz would work out of danger and left 2 runners stranded.

Giedroc walked to load the bases with two gone in the bottom of the seventh and Shearer came through with the heroics.  She hit a hard line drive to the shortstop who mishandled the ball, the flip to second was too late as Giedroc got in under the tag and Andie O’Neal scored the winning run as the Mounties took game one 6-5.

Jess Seasoltz pitched a gem in game two as Mt. Aloysius got the sweep with a 9-1 victory in 6 innings in game two.  She allowed 1 run on 5 hits while fanning 5 to earn her 12^th win of the season.  Seasoltz threw a combined 208 pitches (95 in Game 1; 103 in Game 2) and in the two victories. 

After a slow start the Mounties offense exploded in the late innings, scoring 8 runs between the 5^th and 6^th innings.  Shearer hit a SAC fly to center field which scored Giedroc in the bottom of the 6^th for the 9-1 lead and the Mounties eight-run ruled Greensburg in game two.

Softball has their bye week this week for conference play in the AMCC but will travel to Wilson College on Saturday for a non-conference double header.
