ALLENTOWN- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team fell in their season opener to King's College on Friday evening by the final score of 79-65 in the opening game of the Muhlenberg College Tournament.
The Mount jumped out to an early 18-6 lead and a three-point shot from Morgan Brosnihan expanded the advantage to 25-6 with 10:46 to play in the opening half. However, Kings rallied and cut the lead to one heading into the break.
The game would go back-and-forth until a late push by King's in the last four minutes of regulation. The Monarchs outscored the Mounties 16 to 5 in the last four and a half minutes to steal the victory.
Lindsy Sammarco led the Mount offensively with 19 points while also adding seven rebounds and a team-high four assists. Guard Becky Bard also finished in doubles figures with 17 points.
King's guard Celia Rader dropped in a game-high 25 points and Katlin Michaels dished ten assists.
The Mounties will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Centenary College in the consolation game.
