CRESSON- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team showed no signs of rust after a three-week break as the Mounties defeated visiting Hilbert 71-66 in AMCC action on Saturday afternoon.
The Mounties forced 27 turnovers and totaled 18 steals with effective pressure on the defensive end. Offensively, Lindsy Sammarco had 22 points and four assists while Becky Bard registered 19 points.
The two sides exchanged the lead in the opening half. The Mount opened up a 12-4 lead just over three minutes in on a layup by Sammarco, but Hilbert responded with a 16-3 run over the next seven minutes to create a five-point edge. The Mount took a 33-30 lead into the half.
Neither team led by more than six in the second half as the stalemate continued. With the scored tied at 66-66, the Mount's Morgan Brosnihan hit two key free throws with 58 seconds left. After two defensive stops and another free throw from Brosnihan, the Mount's Alexis Restori sealed the win with two more at the charity stripe to create a 71-66 advantage with three seconds remaining.
Hilbert was led by Jessica Jamison's 20 points, including five three-pointers. Jenah Labuski recorded 10 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
The Mount improves to 2-3 in conference play and 6-5 overall with the win.
