CRESSON- After trailing early on, the Mount Aloysius women's basketball team seized control in the beginning stages of the second half and went on to defeat visiting Frostburg State in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

Frostburg held the lead for much of the first half and took a 19-12 advantage with 9:19 to go. The Mounties responded by closing the half on a 18-6 run and carried that momentum into the second half.

Mount Aloysius jumped on the visitors with a 9-0 run to begin the second period of play that was capped by a Becky Bard jumper with 14:55 remaining. The advantage expanded to as much as 22 on a Lauryn Colmer three-point shot with 2:35 to play. Despite a late run by Frostburg, the Mounties eased to victory.

Lindsy Sammarco, the reigning AMCC player of the week, paced the Mount with 24 points, four assists and three steals. Bard added 16, while Teddi Burkett and Alexis Restori each grabbed six rebounds.

The Mounties were again effective on the defensive end as they caused 29 Frostburg turnovers. The visitors were led by 14 points from Elaina Hummel.

The Mount returns to AMCC play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. home contest against PSU-Behrend.
