Cresson, Pa.—Five Mount Aloysius student-athletes were named to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Spring All-Sportsmanship team.

Each conference member of the 10-team league is permitted to select one individual for each affiliated sport who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season for the distinction.  The individuals selected were voted on by their fellow teammates.

“Selecting only five student-athletes for the AMCC All-Sportsmanship Team was a difficult process here,” Mount Aloysius President Tom Foley said.

“The five students chosen represent a Mount Aloysius athletic tradition that focuses on personal character and integrity. I’m proud of these student-athletes and of the MAC tradition they represent. We congratulate the entire AMCC Spring All-Sportsmanship Team together with their teammates and coaching staffs.”

Spring Krepps was chosen for the women’s basketball team. Krepps was a three-year starting guard for the Lady Mounties.  The Lewistown native averaged 8.5 ppg and helped guide the Lady Mounties to a second-round conference playoff appearance and the team’s best ever AMCC finish.   Krepps has a 3.37 grade point average.

For the second consecutive year, Howard Ferguson was named to the AMCC All-Sportsmanship team.  The senior men’s basketball player averaged 7.0 ppg while shooting a team high 50% field goal percentage.  Ferguson is from Woodbridge, Va. and is the first ever Mount Aloysius student-athlete to be a two-time recipient of the conference’s sportsmanship award.

Megan Brown was the Lady Mounties softball team selection.  The junior from State College was 6-1 on the mound this season, and also earned two saves.  She led the team in earned run average, and ranked fifth in the conference in that statistic.  Brown is also a Dean’s List honoree and member of the Chi Alpha Sigma student-athlete honor society with a 3.85 grade point average.

The Mounties baseball team voted senior Stephen Hickey as their Sportsmanship team designee.  Hickey, who is from Wayne, Pa., was dominant for the Mounties during the final stretch of the season.  He recorded three saves and earned  a key win in a playoff game against Pitt-Greensburg, which led to Mount Aloysius making its first ever appearance in the AMCC Championship game.

Hickey’s performance earned him recognition as the AMCC’s Pitcher of the Week, as well as a spot on the national D3baseball.com Team of the Week.  He is the first Mountie player in school history to earn that recognition. 

Sophomore Ryan Bressler was chosen to represent men’s tennis on the All-Sportsmanship team.  Bressler is a Tyrone High School alum.  He is also a Dean’s List student and a member of the AMCC All-Academic team.

“One thing we try to emphasize to our student-athletes is respect for your teammates, your opponents, and officials.  This is a tremendous honor for these players to be named to the All-Sportsmanship team, and we are very proud of all of them,” Mount Aloysius Athletic Director Ryan Smith said.

According to conference bylaws, the student-athletes selected must consistently demonstrate a high level of ethical conduct, respect and fair play in both practice and competition, whether on the sidelines or as an active competitor.  They must also serve as positive representatives of school spirit when a spectator at other teams’ sporting events.
