The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team defeated Valley Forge Christian College 2-0 on Saturday afternoon to capture their first victory of the season.

The Mounties put the pressure on early against the visiting Patriots. Megan Parker's chip shot from 25 yards out over the Patriots charging goalkeeper bounced just over the crossbar, and Mackenzie Horne's shot from 20 yards out went just wide.

Lara Appiah gave the Mounties the lead 22 minutes in when she made a long run down the left flank, showing tremendous speed past two defenders. She then cut past the Patriots goalkeeper on the dribble and finished in the open net.

The Mounties expanded on the lead midway through the second half on a lofted shot by Horne off a pass from Caitlin Greiner at the 64 minute mark. Their strong defense then held on to the shutout.

Lauren Challingsworth recorded the shutout in her first full collegiate game and made three saves. The Mounties outshot the Patriots 9-5 and registered a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
