Former Mount Aloysius standout student-athlete Brianna Baker was named the head women's volleyball coach in August 2008.
Baker becomes just the third head coach in the Mount Aloysius volleyball program's history. She succeeds the highly respected John Porta, who retired at the end of the 2007 season, after six years at the Lady Mounties helm.
Though this is Baker's first collegiate coaching assignment, she is a natural for the endeavor. As a player, Baker played with pride, passion, and energy. She brings that same level of enthusiasm and work ethic to the coaching ranks.
Baker was a two-time First Team All-Conference volleyball selection for the Lady Mounties. In 2004, she was voted "Newcomer of the Year" by the AMCC volleyball coaches. She led the AMCC in hitting percentage during her junior and senior seasons, and was also top of the conference statistics in kills per game 2007.
In addition to being a standout volleyball player, Baker also excelled on the women's basketball team. She was named Second Team All-Conference in 2007-08. Her two-sport prowess earned her the distinction of being recognized as Mount Aloysius' "Female Athlete of the Year" for three consecutive years.
Baker has a demonstrated strong commitment to academics and community service.
She was a past member of the Chi Alpha Sigma academic honor society for student-athletes, and graduated from Mount Aloysius Summa Cum Laude with a degree in elementary education.
Baker has been instrumental in organizing a number of student-athlete community service projects, and has participated in several voluntary missionary trips to Honduras.
