Dear Students:
Welcome to Mount Aloysius! As a member of the Mount Aloysius College community you are being invited into an educational process which will challenge you to learn and grow professionally and personally. This handbook is designed to assist you in becoming familiar with College life, the services available on the campus and your responsibilities as a student. As you begin the 2010-2011 academic year, you should review the contents of this handbook.
Mount Aloysius prides itself on being a friendly, learning environment. Faculty, staff and students are resources for one another. Do not hesitate to ask for assistance when you need it. In addition to striving for excellence in your academic course work, we hope that you will choose to become involved in the life of the College. From athletics, to theater productions or one of dozens of school clubs, to informal lunch conversations with classmates and professors, there are numerous opportunities on this campus to enrich and deepen your life. We believe at Mount Aloysius that it is our job to help prepare you to earn a living but it is our mission to give the same insights in how to lead your life. Of course, in the end you are ultimately responsible for the choices you make and the degree to which you meet the goals you have set for yourself in choosing to pursue a college education. Accept the challenge!
The hub of student activities, Cosgrave Center, includes a wonderfully welcoming lounge and study area, fitness and exercise rooms, a game room, bookstore, meeting rooms, a day care center and dining areas. Student Affairs offices including the Center for Career Services are conveniently located there as well. Cosgrave Center is a launching pad for friendships, involvement in leadership activities and a health lifestyle. I strongly encourage you to take full advantage of its many services.
As a Catholic College sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, Mount Aloysius is sensitive to the ethical and spiritual dimensions of the educational experience. A well educated person is the one who has delved into the mysteries of life and has not been afraid to ask the ultimate questions of meaning or to explore troubling moral issues. I encourage you to attend to these dimensions of your life as well. It is with confidence in the extraordinarily capable and caring staff and faculty of Mount Aloysius that I welcome you to a new academic year! May God bless you with peace and good health!
Sincerely,
Dr. Tom Foley
President
