The Online Certificate in Finance through Mount Aloysius College is a twelve-credit academic program that assists students who are new to management positions in enhancing their current business knowledge by developing basic skills in finance and accounting.

Program Goals and Objectives

Upon completion of this certificate, participants will be able to:

• Apply financial knowledge to the management of the short-term and long-term capital of the business, with emphasis on the time value of money;
• Build on knowledge of financial reporting and apply these principles to the internal financial control of the business; and
• Understand elements of both microeconomics and macroeconomics.

Entrance Requirements

• An application with $30 fee.
• Official high school transcript or GED diploma.
• Official college/university transcript, if applicable.

 At the completion of the program, students receive a Certificate of Completion.

Course Descriptions

AC 101 Accounting Principles I - 3 Credits
Introduction to accounting and financial information. Includes an overview of principles of financial accounting and basic managerial accounting concepts. Includes applications of electronic spreadsheets. Emphasis is placed on the use of accounting information in management decision making.

AC 102 Accounting Principles II - 3 Credits
An extension of AC 101 with more emphasis on the collection, preparation, presentation, and interpretation of accounting information. Covers financial and managerial accounting and includes application using accounting software. Prerequisite: AC 101.

BU 220 Corporate Finance - 3 Credits
Analyzes the acquisition and management of corporate capital by means of the sources and uses of funds and cash flows determination. An emphasis is placed on financial statement analysis, asset management, capital budgeting, cost of funds and time evaluation of money. Prerequisites: AC 101, AC 102.

EC 201 Introduction to Economics - 3 Credits
This course presents basic concepts of economics, history of economic theorizing, national income analysis, money and banking, monetary policy, supply and demand, competition and monopoly, and compares economic systems.
