Dr. Sara Rutledge is an Associate Professor of Early Childhood and Elementary Education at Mount Aloysius College. She has eight years of Pre-K-7th grade teaching experience, nineteen years of higher education teaching experience, and experience supervising student teachers. At Mount Aloysius College, Dr. Rutledge currently serves as a member of the Steering Committee and as the Resource and Document Coordinator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education Institutional Self-Study, a member of the Academic Honors Societies Committee and administrator of the college-wide Faculty Resource Page, Education Department Facebook page and Education Department Blackboard site. She also developed and oversees the Education Department Electronic Portfolio Project. Dr. Rutledge additionally places a high value on service learning and incorporates this teaching methodology into her teacher education courses. Dr. Rutledge enjoys mentoring students at the Undergraduate Research Symposium and the Service Learning Expo. Dr. Rutledge is additionally a manuscript reviewer for the Pennsylvania Teacher Educator, a journal of the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Teacher Educators and Education for Young Adolescents, a journal of the Pennsylvania Professors of Middle Level Education.

Her research interests include incorporating technology into education, multicultural education, child development, curriculum development, inclusion of exceptional children, and effective instructional strategies. She has most recently presented at the Carlow University Roundtable Conference in Dublin, Ireland, the Association for Teacher Educators Conference in Boston, MA, at Student Pennsylvania State Education Association events at Penn State University and Clarion University and was invited to be the Keynote Speaker at the ARIN IU 28 25th Annual Early Childhood Conference in Indiana, PA. Dr. Rutledge is a member of NAEYC, PAEYC, PENNAEYC, ASCD, and AAUW. Since 2006, she has additionally served as a School Board Member for the Zion Lutheran Preschool in Indiana, PA where she serves as the Marketing Director and Website Administrator in addition to updating the Family Handbook.
