Will I be the only adult at Mount Aloysius College?
You will not be the only adult in the classes. About 100 plus new adult students begin at Mount Aloysius College each year.
What are the ages of Adult Freshmen?
The age of an Adult Freshmen varies. Adult Freshmen are students who apply beyond their high school graduation year and have 29 transfer credits or less. We do not have an age cap, so there is no maximum age of attendance.
I want to work and go to school. Can I do this?
Yes, you can still work and go to school. We have flexible class scheduling that enables you to do this. Many of our students are able to work full-time and be full-time students - enabling them to receive full financial aid and enter the job market more quickly. However, academics remain the priority for our students.
Is it better to be a full-time or part-time student?
To receive the most in financial aid money that would be available to you, it would be in your best interest to be
a full-time student. Students always receive more financial aid money when they go full-time compared to part-time. If you want to setup a time to visit the college to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact your admissions counselor.
Being a full time student, will there be enough financial aid to cover the tuition costs?
In some cases, there are students that are able to have all of tuition costs covered. This does not happen in all cases.

Can adult freshmen get scholarships?
Sure! There are a number of scholarship opportunities for adult freshmen ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 a year. We also participate in all federal and state financial aid programs.
When is the best time to visit?
The best time to visit is during the week, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is an individual appointment where you can meet with an admissions counselor, financial aid representative and get a tour of the campus.
Do you offer day care on the campus?
Our Ann Harris Smith Little People's Place offers safe, convenient, and affordable child care that accommodates your class schedule. Children from the ages of two to five are welcome, but space is limited. If you have more questions, please feel free to contact Little People's Place at (814) 886-6456.
Do I have to take any testing before being accepted?
For certain programs, there is pre-entrance testing. The type of test depends upon the major of your choice. These tests will check to see that you have the necessary skills needed for the program.
You may be required to take a placement test, too. This is not an acceptance test - just a test to determine your placement in math and English courses. If you have any questions about the testing, please feel free to contact the admissions office or your assigned counselor.
What happens if I miss class because of a family/work situation?
While adult students are expected to attend classes and complete all assignments, our professors understand that adults often balance school with other responsibilities. If this situation arises, the best thing to do is contact your professor as soon as possible.
Can I attend as a part-time student?
You can. While students can attend MAC on a part-time basis, we encourage students to go full-time so that they can benefit from full-time financial aid and scholarships. Students who attend full-time often finish their degree faster and can enter the job market more quickly.
Can I start by taking classes at night?
Mount Aloysius College does offer a number of courses at night, but not all of our courses are offered during evening hours. Most students do eventually have to come during the day to complete a degree.
Do you offer programs that are strictly online?
At this time, Mount Aloysius College does offer some programs online.
Do adult students have the opportunity to do internships?
Yes! Many of our degree programs have internships as part of the curriculum.
