What is Service-Learning?

Service-Learning at Mount Aloysius College is a method of instruction in which students learn the content of the curriculum while actively participating in and reflecting on experiences that benefit both the community and the students. A service-learning position paper (Service-Learning Plan) was affirmed by the faculty in October 2005 in which this definition of service learning is articulated as well as statements regarding

  • The relevance of service-learning to Mount Aloysius College (MAC)
  • Different models of service-learning
  • The approach that should be taken at MAC
  • A proposed timeline for implementation

Mount Aloysius College continues to develop its service-learning program through a Service-Learning Committee, monies available for service learning projects, or an annual Service-Learning Exposition.
