Mount Aloysius College was founded as a young women’s academy in 1853. In 1939, the Sisters of Mercy made the decision to pioneer a new concept in higher education called a junior college. Mount Aloysius Junior College became the first designated junior college in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, making way for many others to follow. In 1992, the institution we know today as Mount Aloysius College opened its doors to students seeking a baccalaureate education and, eventually master’s degrees. Mount Aloysius lists over 16,500 graduates worldwide and welcomes them all home to Cresson, Pa. this weekend.
