Cresson, Pa. — Two Mount Aloysius College soccer players made history this week earning the men’s and women’s Offensive Player of the Week recognition by the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). The accolades reflect great personal efforts and a shut-out week for Mount Aloysius College soccer.
Mount Aloysius men’s soccer player, sophomore Joshua Devlin was named Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after Devlin was a top threat on the attack for the Mounties during their 2-0 week. On the Lady Mounties team, striker Cheyenne Kuncher earned Offensive Player of the Week after her strong contributions helped lead the lady Mounties to their won 2-0 shut-out last week.
Crucial goals by Devlin and Kuncher were decisive in the Mounties’ wins last week against regional rival Penn State Altoona.
Joshua Devlin began the week with a hat trick as he scored the Mounties’ first three goals and assisted on the team’s fourth goal in a 5-2 victory over Penn State Altoona last Wednesday evening. He then added another goal in their 2-0 win against D’Youville on Saturday when Mount Aloysius Men’s Soccer climbed to 3-1 in conference play and 10-2-1 overall.
Devlin is now tied for fourth in the AMCC with six goals and his 15 points on the season rank him in a tie for seventh.
The Mounties returned to action Tuesday with a 2 p.m. kickoff at home against Franciscan.
Cheyenne Kuncher was all over the scoring column in wins against Penn State Altoona and D’Youville. She scored the game’s first goal against Penn State Altoona, and then she assisted on the game-winning goal late in the game in the Mounties’ 2-1 victory last Wednesday. She next netted a hat-trick in a 6-3 win over D’Youville on Saturday, including the game-winning goal on a lofted shot from the wing that dropped in over the goalie’s head.
Kuncher, a junior, lifted her total to eight goals on the season, which currently ranks her fifth in the AMCC.
The Lady Mounties returned to their home pitch Tuesday in a 4 p.m. kickoff against Franciscan.
