Vox NovaVox Nova

Vox NovaVox Nova is the "new voice" at Mount Aloysius College, a choral ensemble primarily concentrating its repertoire on the Renaissance (1450 - 1600) and Baroque (1600 - 1750) eras.

All members of the ensemble are full-time students at the College enrolled in various degree programs. In this way, Vox Nova is uniquely designed for the non-music major. Every performer is auditioned and must meet and maintain strict musical and academic criteria. They are awarded with membership in the chorus and scholarships and stipends from Mount Aloysius.

Vox Nova is both performance and educationally based. In addition to their performances on and off campus, the ensemble will share and showcase their talents with high school choral singers in workshops developed for the purpose of exposing young students to noteworthy music.

Sing Praise!
Thursday, February 12, 2009

This evening's concert is a presentation of sacred music of a variety of styles and sounds. You will hear contemporary, spiritual and hymn tunes in the sacred palette. An added highlight to the performance will be the Zion Chimers of Zion Lutheran Church in Hollidaysburg. Under the direction of Kathy Gaspar, this ensemble participates in bell choir festivals and solo performances as well as their regular work at the church for services and special occasions. It will be both a vocal and instrumental offering sure to appeal to our listeners.

In the Footsteps of Christ
Thursday, March 26, 2009

The journey of Jesus as portrayed in the Scriptural Stations of the Cross is a solemn recollection of Christ's last hours leading to His crucifixion and burial. The Lenten season is a time for meditation and soul-searching as concerns our own lives and actions. Vox Nova presents vocal music that leads to this meditative state based on the Stations of the Cross. Each work is reflective as members of Campus Ministry recall Christ's selfless sacrifice. Vox Nova invites you to this lovely and introspective presentation as we approach the Easter season.

All performances are located in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel in the Main Administration Building at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Vox Nova's CD Offerings can be purchased for $12 by contacting Nancy Way or (814) 886-6495. Proceeds from the CD benefit Vox Nova student scholarships.
