The Mission of Mount Aloysius College is to respond to individual and community needs with quality education in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy. The partnership forged with the Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), the US Army Institute of Surgical Research, (USAISR), and Mount Aloysius College to conduct nursing education research in telenursing education and clinical care has gained national recognition for the college.

As the flagship of military healthcare, Walter Reed Army Medical Center is key in providing opportunities to implement new technologies and applications. The Virtual Clinical Practicum® Proof of Concept research project occurred between Mount Aloysius College and the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at WRAMC during the Fall of 2004. Nursing students observed and learned about the nursing care of complicated adult medical patients and were provided with an intensive care clinical experience remotely via telehealth technology.
