The inception of the NTAI was a result of a growing need to respond to the nursing shortage as well as soaring healthcare costs. This phased initiative was initially funded in 2002. Startup activities ensued and by July of 2003, staff was hired to conduct and support the research activities proposed. Research activities were proposed to occur in parallel throughout the course of the project.
