Here at Mount Aloysius College, we’re committed to the success of our students. Whether you need help preparing for your next big exam, could use an extra set of eyes on your research paper, or just want some extra review time, peer and professional tutors are available.
Due to the College’s response to COVID-19 and the need for remote alternatives to the services that are usually provided in person, the Learning Commons will be temporarily amending the procedures for students to attain academic support such as Supplemental Instruction and Professional Tutoring.
Unfortunately, Peer Tutoring will not be offered during the remote period.
Professional tutors are available for online tutoring session. Sessions will be held remotely using the Google Meet function in the College’s G-Suite which can be accessed through the student’s College email account.
The procedure for scheduling and attending a Professional Tutoring session is as follows:
- Schedule an appointment with any professional tutor by logging in to TutorTrac using your campus credentials for log-in.
- Follow-up with the auto-reply email from TutorTrac by contacting the Professional Tutor with an agenda of what they would like to cover.*
- The student will need to initiate the appointment in Google Meet at the designated time (directions can be found here: https://support.google.com/meet/answer/9302870?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en)
*The email regarding the agenda for the appointment will enable Professional Tutors to have access to necessary materials, especially for appointments that may benefit from the use of a white board or other props to better visualize the material being discussed.
Additionally, students meeting with the Writing Consultant and Study Skills Specialist for writing assistance must share a Google Doc to enable commenting, questions and revision during the tutoring session in Google Meet.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,
The Learning Commons Staff

Become a Peer Tutor
If you excel in a particular course, we might even hire you to tutor other students who may be having difficulties! It’s a win-win situation! Fill out the Peer Tutor Application and return it to the Learning Commons Coordinator for consideration.
Supplemental Instruction is a method of collaborative learning support where a student who has completed the class will attend your class, take notes, read homework assignments and then hold regular review sessions designed to help you become a better student.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) will continue to be offered through the Conference function in Canvas. Please check Canvas for information from your faculty member and SI leader as well as for any changes to dates and times for sessions.
