Mount Aloysius College’s Medical Provider to RN pathway is designed to make that transition smooth and simple, so you can cross the stage as a registered nurse in as few as three semesters.
How does it work? Our faculty and academic staff assess your background and skills as you enter the program and customize the coursework to match your learning needs. Chances are high that you have skills and experiences that count as Credits For Prior Learning, meaning that the experience you already have in the field can count towards your credit needs! Any other general education (non-nursing) classes you need can be taken online!

Medical Provider to RN pathway applicants meeting the articulation criterion may be granted a maximum of twelve (7) credits in nursing, seven (7) credits following successful completion of NUAS 115 – Medical Provider to RN Transition.
If you are an LPN…
In order to receive the seven (7) credits, you must have graduated within the past three years from an LPN program or have work experience as an LPN equivalent to 1,000 hours in the past three years, or have completed an approved refresher course. You must submit employer verification of work experience as well as verification of licensure. If you meet this criterion, seven (7) credits will be given after successful completion of NUAS 115 – Medical Provider to RN Transition.
If you are a paramedic or EMT…
In order to receive the seven (7) credits, you must have graduated within the past three years from a paramedic or advanced EMT program or have work experience as a paramedic advanced EMT equivalent to 1,000 hours in the past three years, or have completed an approved refresher course. You must submit employer verification of work experience as well as verification of certification. If you meet this criterion, seven (7) credits will be given after successful completion of NUAS 115 – Medical Provider to RN Transition.
If you are a veteran or currently in the military…
In order to receive the seven (7) credits, you must have completed training within a healthcare certification specialty such as a Navy Corpsman, Air Force Pararescue specialists, or Army Combat Medic Specialist and have actively performed in this certification role an equivalent of 1,000 hours in the past three years, or have completed an approved refresher course. You must submit a military transcript supporting training completed as well as certification documentation. If you meet this criterion, seven (7) credits will be given after successful completion of NUAS 115 – Medical Provider to RN.

Prior to enrolling in Level II Nursing courses, NUAS 240 – Nursing of the Family Theory and Clinical, you must have completed the following:

- NUAS 115 – Medical Provider to RN Transition (can be taken concurrently with NUAS 240 if BIOL 202 completed)
- NUAS 220 – Nursing Pharmacology (can be taken concurrently with NUAS 240 if BIOL 202 completed)

Individuals entering the Medical Provider to RN program that have been actively working as a paramedic, LPN, or other approved healthcare providers with prior military experience are able to challenge BIOL 201 (Anatomy and Physiology I) and BIOL 202 (Anatomy and Physiology II) if they were taken for college credit greater than 7 years ago. If these courses have been taken in the past 7 years, they are accepted with a C or better. Please see the challenge exam policy for the process to complete these exams.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in the CLEP program which supports testing for credits for MATH 111 (The Three C’s) and PSYC 101 (General Psychology).
For students that have had Anatomy and Physiology I and II coursework, but not for college credit in the instance of LPN students, are encouraged to pursue prior learning credit policy. To be considered, LPN students must be currently working in the healthcare field and submit a completed prior learning credit portfolio.

- Apply for acceptance prior to January 15 th for the upcoming Fall semester.
- For any student whose native language is not English will need to take one of the English language proficiency examinations listed below:
- TOEFL iBT of 84 or higher total score with a minimum speaking score of 26
- TOEFL PBT of 540 or high total score
- IELTS Academic score of 6.5 or higher with a minimum of 6.0 in each module
- PTE Academic score of 55 or higher overall, with no Communicative Skills sub-scores lower than 50 in each part,
- MELAB with Speaking score of 81 or higher overall total score and a minimum score of 3 on the speaking test is required as part of the application for an individual whose primary language is not English.
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university demonstrating a minimum 2.5 CPGA as verified by official transcript at the time of application.
- Completion of all prerequisite science courses (CHEM100, BIOL201/201L, BIOL202/202L, BIOL210, BIOL112) with a minimum C grade (within the past 7 years); and
- Demonstrate a CGPA of 2.5 in the prerequisite science courses.
*Students graduating with a baccalaureate degree the spring prior to fall matriculation may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis dependent on space available.
