Mount Aloysius Service Group Safe after Flooding in Kentucky

Cresson, Pa. – A group of nine Mount Aloysius students, employees, and alumni on a service trip in Kentucky this week are safe after being impacted by last night’s flooding.

The group was participating in service work with the Riverside Christian School in Lost Creek, Kentucky, when flash flooding occurred early morning on July 28, 2022. The group went to the second floor of the building, and then was taken to dry land by the National Guard via boat. A charter bus is en route to pick up the group for their return to Pennsylvania.

The group remained in communication with the College throughout the situation, and updates were shared with parents and the Mount Aloysius community via email and social media.

Below are the original messages to the community.

Our students, employees, and alumni on the service trip to Lost Creek, Kentucky this week were impacted by the major flooding late last night. We have been in contact with the group; we have confirmation as of 11:15 a.m. EST that everyone is okay and are located on the second floor of the building they are in. The national guard is beginning to transport our group and the residents of the building up the road to dry land. They have food and water. Cell service is almost completely down in that area, but we do have continued limited contact with the group via an international line. We are sending a charter bus now to meet the group.
