The Best of the Great Outdoors and City Life Can Be Found Near Campus.

State Parks Are on Our Doorstep

You’ll find an assortment of beautiful state parks just minutes from Mount Aloysius, including Prince Gallitzin, Blue Knob, Canoe Creek, and Yellow Creek.

There are plenty of nearby locations for biking boating, cross-country and downhill skiing, fishing, golfing, hunting, swimming, and more.

Hike, Bike, and Ski on Our Scenic Campus

For a break from classes or studies, you can hike or ride a mountain bike in the wooded areas around campus.

In the spring and summer, toss a frisbee or football on the wide green lawns. In the autumn, jump into piles of leaves or pick apples from the campus orchard. In the winter, you can cross-country ski right out your front door.

Suburban Malls, Store & Restaurants

Mount Aloysius is a center for outdoor life, but the convenience of modern shopping, dining, and entertainment is nearby, too.

A fifteen minute drive in one direction brings you to the city of Altoona. Famous for railroading, Altoona features a full-scale mall, movie theatres, amusement parks, a minor league baseball stadium, and lots of stores and restaurants.

Drive twenty-five minutes in the other direction and you’ll find more shopping, restaurants, theatres, malls and entertainment in the city of Johnstown. The site of famous floods and the World’s Steepest Incline Plane, Johnstown is home to professional baseball and hockey teams.

City Life is Close

For the hustle and bustle of an even bigger city, you can zip off to Pittsburgh. Driving an hour and a half west will bring you to the home of the Steelers, Pirates, Penguins, and an endless number of places to go and things to do.

Truly, you’ll find the best of all worlds at Mount Aloysius, from the outdoors to the big city.
