Cresson, Pa. — The Mount Aloysius College Criminology Department will host Joseph Schwartz, a PA Justice Media Fellow, on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 3:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall. Mr. Schwartz’s discussion is titled “A Journey from Behind Bars to Freedom: Finding Mentors in Unlikely Places.”

Mount Aloysius College Professor of Criminology, Dr. Elizabeth Mansley facilitated a chapter of the Inside-Out program at FCI Loretto. During the program, Dr. Mansley met Mr. Schwartz, who was then incarcerated at FCI Loretto.

Mr. Schwartz was released from prison and sought to make a difference in his community. He is a contributor to The People’s Paper Co-Op, criminal justice journalist group. Mr. Schwartz, who currently resides in Philadelphia, Pa., was named one of the seven Spring 2019 Media Justice Fellows of the group.

Mr. Schwartz also reentered the culinary world and rediscovered his love for baking pastries. He has studied at the International Pastry Arts Center. He is a native of Huntingdon Valley, Pa.

Mount Aloysius College is seeking to relaunch their chapter of the Inside-Out program this coming Spring. This program allows students and incarcerated individuals to engage and learn from each other.
