Cresson, Pa. – Students at Mount Aloysius College will benefit from two additional endowed scholarships to help fund their education.  The Devorris Family Endowed Scholarship established by Mr. Donald Devorris, commemorates his son, Philip Devorris’ chairmanship of the Mount Aloysius College Board of Trustees.  The John J. “Jack” Foley, Sr., Scholarship, established by Mount Aloysius College President Tom Foley and his wife, Michele together with members of the Foley Family, memorializes President Tom Foley’s father, the late John J. “Jack” Foley.

Mount Aloysius College Board of Trustees Chairman, Philip Devorris has served on the College’s board for the past nine years, most recently as vice chairman.  He is president and CEO of Blair Companies, based in Altoona, Pa.  The Devorris Family is well known throughout the community for their philanthropic support of education and the arts.  The Devorris Family Scholarship at Mount Aloysius College was established with a $50,000 commitment from Mr. Donald Devorris.  The funds will help Mount Aloysius College students demonstrating financial need.

The John J. “Jack” Foley, Sr. Scholarship is funded at the $50,000 level.  Students applying for this Scholarship must demonstrate financial need and be active student- leaders who participate in the life of the College–both in and out of the classroom.  President Foley’s parents encouraged their children to get a college education, something that was not available to his parents.  Eleven of the 12 Foley children achieved that goal.  Foley said that “It is our hope that this scholarship, in our father’s name, will help other “first-generation-to-college” families to achieve this goal.  My dad would be delighted to know that someone else’s child is getting the chance to go to college in his name – I know my mother is!”

At Mount Aloysius College, fully 94 percent of students receive some form of financial aid.  Many students represent the first in their extended families to attend college.  The average financial aid package is $ 10,000.  Mount Aloysius College awards millions of dollars in scholarships each year and also offers grants and work-study assistance.   Through solid stewardship, Mount Aloysius College maintains affordability for students while offering them an education that enables their becoming technology-ready, community-ready and job-ready upon graduation.  Mount Aloysius College offers one of the most affordable liberal arts educations in the northeastern United States.
